Our story

Two brothers.
A love for Pinot Blanc.

Since 1789 the Laculle family has grown vines in the Côte des Bar. Since 2018 Edouard and Victor have put their own name on the bottle.

A family of vine growers in the Côte des Bar

The Laculle family has deep roots in the Côte des Bar. They were ploughmen, sons and grandsons of ploughmen, and the first Laculle winegrowers we know of go back to 1789.

Edouard and Victor studied in Beaune, then came home to Chervey, and in 2018 they put the family name on their own label: Laculle Frères. Edouard looks after the vines, Victor the cellar.

Their father, Patrick, has decades of experience behind him, and although he’s officially retired, he still works alongside them. Their grandfather Michel, who has done many, many harvests, still comes out to watch.

Our love for Pinot Blanc

Pinot Blanc is finding its way back into Champagne, and here in the Côte des Bar it has always had its place. A third of our vines are Pinot Blanc, and Victor works closely with it in the cellar. It’s always in Les Deux Vallées and in Plaisir Champenois, all the way to the single plot Val Moignot.

Edouard Laculle

Co-founder and viticulturist

Edouard looks after our vines. He trained at the wine school in Beaune, and he sums up his job in four words: “getting good grapes”. He’s happiest outdoors, in the rows, and he farms our 14 hectares sustainably, with the next generations in mind.

Victor Laculle

Co-founder and winemaker

Victor runs the cellar. After training in Beaune and Bordeaux, he worked at Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Alain Besson in Chablis and Domaine A.F. Gros in the Côte d’Or, then at Clos Solene in Paso Robles, California, in Cape Town, in Blenheim, New Zealand, and finally at Bay of Fires in Tasmania. What he looks for in every cuvée is the plot it comes from, and he works closely with our Pinot Blanc.

Richie Laculle-Chen

Marketing and part-time cellar rat

Richie is from Singapore and studied communications and international relations at Deakin and Monash universities in Australia. She came to champagne by accident and stayed: she married Victor. She looks after our trade partners and our Instagram, and lends a hand in the cellar when it’s needed. Her French, she says, is a work in progress.

Our vineyards · Chervey

Three villages, three grapes

Our vines grow around three villages, Chervey, Meurville and Buxeuil, on Kimmeridgian and Portlandian clay-limestone. We grow Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, which is finding its way back into Champagne. Edouard farms them sustainably.
